Fixing the Housing Shortage: Affordable Housing Solutions

Welcome to our housing reform initiative! At our campaign, we're committed to making homeownership more accessible for everyone in Assembly District 44.

Reforming the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)

The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) of 1970 was created with good intentions, but it has unintentionally hindered housing development. We propose comprehensive CEQA reform to streamline the process, encourage sustainable development, and alleviate the housing crisis.

Why CEQA Reform Matters:

CEQA has played a vital role in protecting our environment, but it's time to modernize it. Our reform efforts aim to:

  • Streamline the Approval Process: CEQA reform will simplify and expedite the permitting process for housing projects, reducing delays that can increase costs.

  • Encourage Sustainable Development: We will update CEQA to prioritize sustainable building practices, fostering environmentally responsible housing.

  • Increase Housing Supply: By removing unnecessary obstacles, we'll enable more housing units to be built and increase supply. This will alleviate demand and bring down housing costs across the board. This, in conjunction with incentivizing developers to build affordable options, will go a long way.

Ending Large Hedge Fund Home Purchases

Hedge funds buying up single-family homes to sit on them is exacerbating our housing shortage. It's time to put an end to this practice by making it illegal. We need to prioritize housing for families, not investment portfolios.

Addressing the Impact of Hedge Funds:

Large hedge funds purchasing single-family homes have created a cycle of unaffordability. Our proposal seeks to:

  • Protect Family Housing: Making it illegal for hedge funds to buy single-family homes will ensure these properties remain accessible to families in need.

  • Preserve Inventory: This policy will preserve housing inventory for those looking to make a home, rather than those looking to make a profit.

  • Breaking the Negative Feedback Loop: Ending speculative purchases will help break the cycle where people get priced out of homeownership, unable to save enough due to high rents.

Taking Action Together

Our vision for housing reform is built on the belief that everyone deserves a place to call home. With your support, we can:

  • Create Affordable Housing: By reforming CEQA, we'll make it easier for housing to be built. This will including affordable options to help more Californians get one step closer to achieving the American Dream.

  • Preserve Inventory for Families: We'll work to make it illegal for large hedge funds to snatch up single-family homes, preserving these properties for the families who need them.

  • Address the Housing Crisis: We'll tackle the housing crisis head-on, so younger, middle-class households have a real shot at homeownership.
